The comprehensive pleasure ground of Imperial Concubine Yuan’s Lotus Garden locates in the south of tour dock of Anxin county, 1,750 meters in south and north and 1,300 meters in east and west. There is vast expance of water here in the Garden with clear water quality. Reeds circle the Garden and lotuses grow fully. It is one of the most beautiful sights in Baiyangdian.
The lotus garden covers an area of about 700 mu. The lotus leaf is big, the stem is tall and straight, the petal is plump and the color is fresh and bright with faint fragrant hanging in the air. People visiting lotus in Baiyangdian often come to this garden from of old, moreover they have left a lot of poems praising the beautiful scenery here. Especially in Jin Dynasty, a beloved imperial concubine of Emperor Zhangzong--Imperial Concubine Yuan whose name was Li Shier(a native of Anxin) focused on lotus with great passion, and the favor even became a hobby. She often came here boating and visiting lotus accompanied by Emperor Zhangzong. Thus here gradually turned into a place where the Emperor and his Yuan visited lotus, and the common people cannot come and travel here. So since then people call here “Imperial Concubine Yuan’s Lotus Garden”.
In the 4th year of Jin Dynasty(1204), Emperor Zhangzong built a Xanadu “Jian Chun Palace” to win Yuan’s affections. Moreover a lotus-visiting platform was built in the Palace, and a lotus flower pool (also being called lotus pool) was dug on one side of the platform whose first lot of lotus was dug from the Imperial Concubine Yuan’s Lotus Garden.
The entertainments in the Garden include Reed Marshes Labyrinth, Performance field of Goose Plume Possecomitatus of Baiyangdian, beach bathhouse, and so on.
